John Dick ABO, FNAO
John Dick is an American Board of Opticianry Certified Optician as well as a Fellow of the National Academy of Opticianry since 2008. He is the previous owner of Precision Consulting Services. John is developing an optical primer geared toward helping new dispensers understand basic optical concepts, dispensing and vision, entitled “Ophthalmic Dispensing Made Easy,” and a featured columnist for Eyecare Professional’s Magazine.
He has been employed with William E. Lee, OD, Inc. for the past 11 years working in the capacity of office manager for the past 9 years. Prior to this, he was employed as a lab technician and dispenser for Professional/Bartlesville Optical for 6 years. Over the course of his 17 year career, John has built a wealth of experience and skill as a dispensing optician, lab tech and optometric assistant.
Currently, John is developing a digital photoelastic analyzer which will assist lab technicians and opticians throughout the industry in identifying progressive lenses, recognizing optical defects, and determining lens material utilizing the process of diffraction grating. The implications of his design may have far reaching effects into the disciplines of chemistry and geology. John currently attends the University of California, Berkeley and is pursuing a degree in Molecular Biology.
John is married to the beautiful Melanie Miller and has one son, Kyle. In his downtime, John enjoys woodworking, painting, studying history, optics, physics and biology.
